Hai Phong City Tour 1 Day

HAIPHONG ONE DAY CITY TOUR (DAILY)

Unlike the two neighbors Halong and CatBa island, Hai Phong (haiphong) attracts less tourists unless they arrive in Northern Vietnam by cruiser ships. Yet, the city maintains many charming architectures with evident influence of early 20th century colonial style the French invested to build up the old town as an important sea port.
8h00 Am: Pick up at your hotel. Star the tour by visiting the City Museum where you can have an insight of Haiphong’s history. Continue to discover the city by strolling, starting from  the old Opera House. Few minutes walking from the House are the Five  roofed flowers kiosks in the traditional pagoda-styled which is the typical image of the City. Next stop is the Statue of Le Chan, the famous heroine who helped defend the city from the North’s invaders. Last stop in the walking tour is Den Nghe ( Nghe Temper) the place to worship the Heroine.

10h00: Visit Hai Phong Great Church to find more about HaiPhong Christian history which is dated back from 1676 with the appearance  of Spain Priests from Dominique Branch.

11h00: Visit Hai Phong Marine Museum with a well presented collection of display items with great historical value.

12h00: Lunch at local restaurant.

13h00: Visiting Du Hang Pagoda ( pictured above), the centre of Buddhism in Hai Phong, which is a typical Vietnamese Northern temple that was built in 17th century with some renovations afterward. The pagoda contains a lot of brilliant woodworks, bronze statues, and a bonsai collection right in the front ground. An array of Buddha and Bodhisattva statues highlight a circular pond of water lilies in a flowery garden and a tranquil towered-grave yard, where buried the monks who had resided in the pagoda, make the place a wonderful sanctuary to reduce any pressure. If you luckily arrive in the new moon and full moon days' morning, you will have a chance to catch fascinating pictures of Hai Phong religious women in black velvet scarves and brown long dress, with respectful faces and manners, sitting in and around the main shrine of the pagoda while the monks pray or give lectures of Buddhism.

14h00: Visit Dinh Hang Kenh Communal House, which is dedicated to the Vietnamese hero   Ngo Quyen who lived in 10th century. Being a Communal House of the Kenh village in the old time, the place is famous for its wooden bas-relieves, sculptures and special boat-shaped interior.

16h00: Visit Chợ Hàng- Hàng Market ( if it is weekend) to have experience of local’s daily life, enjoy walking between shops selling seeds, flowers, bonsai, gold fish, cats, dogs…. If it is weekday, visit Chợ Đổ ( Đổ Market) which is one of the whole sale market in the city, shopping for souvenir and local specialties.
